Biogas - all natural
Biogas is a collective term for the gases methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) that are produced when organic material decomposes. This is a completely natural process. If the waste decomposes without access to oxygen, you are left with approximately 60 percent methane and 40 percent carbon dioxide. These gases are suitable for various purposes. Biogas is currently mainly used for transport, and bio-CO2 for food production and dry ice production.
Biogas is about both good climate solutions and taking care of the environment.
The raw materials for biogas production are, for example, energy crops, manure, wet organic waste from households and businesses or residual products from industry and production processes.
Heygaz is initially focusing on cattle and pig manure, slaughterhouse and fish waste, for the production of biogas at the plant in Stord municipality and a new plant in Vindafjord municipality (Biovind).
The biogas industry in Norway faces challenges with high investments, and the product competes with relatively low energy prices. Heygaz makes biogas production commercially sustainable, and in this way we contribute to the acceleration of new plants, and biogas can become a real fuel choice for heavy transport, buses and shipping.
According to the EU's Renewable Energy Directive (REDII), biogas can provide up to 200% climate reduction when livestock manure is used as raw material, and bioresidue for fertilizer.
