Applications for Bio-CO2
Biogas consists of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Heygaz produces biogas and upgrades it to bio-LNG. In the process, CO2 is also captured and liquefied. Bio-CO2 thus becomes a separate product.
Renewable CO2 from biogas can, for example, be used in greenhouses. Plants need carbon dioxide and sunlight to grow. As the plants grow, they extract carbon dioxide from the air and create organic compounds. Completely natural carbon capture, in other words. This is usually called CCU "Carbon Capture and Utilization".
If the carbon dioxide in the greenhouse is made from waste products, it is an excellent example of how we can use the resources we already have around us to form circular value chains, rather than resorting to fossil sources.
CO2 can also be used for dry ice production. Dry ice is used, among other things, for cooling food in the transport industry. This also replaces diesel-powered refrigeration units on trucks.
A third application for CO2 is carbonation in soft drinks and beer. The liquid bio-CO2 produced by Heygaz is of food quality and can be used as carbonation.
